- Focus on the eyes:
While eye contact is not always desirable in a portrait, sharp eyes actually are! Select a point focus on your model’s eyes or use the central focus to lock the target point on the eyes.
- Use a standard or telephoto lens:
Wide-angle lenses are the great choice for taking environmental portraits, where you want to show a person or element with a specific background. The classic portrait photo focal lengths are 50mm or 85mm prime lenses. These will provide more natural looking photos.
- Use of window lights:

- Baby portraits:
Natural light is the best choice for taking baby portraits. Try and position them near window to bounce a natural light. To have a baby at their best mood, photograph them just after feed or after they have woken up first in the morning. Keep a kids photo session short and entertaining.
