Disposing of old furniture can be a pain in the lower posterior. You have several different options, but most of them just put you into a “choosing the lesser evil” scenario.  So what are you supposed to do with your old furniture? You have several options, and in this article, we will go through them so you can make the best choice for your situation. 

Call a professional waste removal service

When you need to discard a large amount of old furniture, your most straightforward option is to call in the professionals and let them handle it. It will save a lot of time and energy as the workers will handle all the heavy lifting and loading.  But if you’re caught up with the whole “handling everything yourself” idea, then the next few options are a better choice for you.

Hire a skip bin service

The professionals will deliver the skip bin and organize the disposal of your unwanted items by sending them to recycling stations. The bad news here is you’ll need special permission to place the skip bin, and you’ll need to think of a space for it.

Recycle it

This is something that sounds good on paper, but it’s painful to execute without spending lots of time on it. You have to figure out what the recyclable components are. If we’re talking about a sofa, you’ll need to downgrade it to its main features so you can get the metal, wood, cardboard, foam, and textile to the recycling facilities where they need to go. You’ll have to handle the entire deconstruction of the old furniture. It sounds fun to break stuff, but in reality, will have to do it carefully. Also, ensure you place everything in the proper category so you can bring it to the recycling center.  Bear in mind that not all recycling centers receive all types of materials. This means you will probably have to bring the parts to different facilities. 

Donate it and get it picked up for free

There are non-profit charities that accept old furniture. Repair it, and either give it to the needy or sell it, so they can help out in some other way. This is a very noble cause, and many companies deal with the furniture in this way. Thus, you can save yourself the trip, the search for proper transportation, and the potentially harmful labor. At the end of the day, this is another excellent option, so you may want to consider it.

Send It to the landfill

Check if the local landfill offers free bulk waste disposal days. Otherwise, you will need a pick-up truck if you want to dispose of the old furniture by yourself. Even if this is a low-cost option, it’s not the best one, as landfills are full of old furniture that’s entirely recyclable.  Conclusion Make sure to think twice about all the options you can use to get rid of the old furniture.
